Closing in in the "Best Nude Scenes" award

We're still missing film clips from several key contenders, but we're just going to have to make do with stills for some of these (as we did for the first five years of the competition). Two of the missing pieces have arrived:

Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Row. Actually, she looks better with her clothes on, but one must admit that she looks pretty damned good for a former fatso. She even has a fairly shapely rump. It ain't easy to lose 60-70 pounds and not acquire a lot of loose, saggy spots, but she's done OK. The one thing that would make her look far better would be ... a smile. You know these serious actresses. Juliette Binoche didn't smile for about two decades until she made Chocolat, which was a great loss because she has an exceptionally beautiful smile. And it seems that Isabelle Huppert is still waiting for her first display of warmth after about four decades in film. I don't think she can turn it around like Binoche, because she's 55 now and her face seems to be frozen into a permanent frown.

No film clip, but here's a Winslet collage:

Eliza Dushku in The Alphabet Killer. This one came as a complete shock to me. Here's the woman who swore she'd never show any screen flesh, suddenly exposing her chest for a freakin' thriller. I have this film, but have only captured the topless scene for now. I'll talk about it tomorrow. I do want to see it because much of it was filmed on location in the place where I grew up, Rochester, New York.

I have assembled 45 contenders from TV and movies. I have to add Nancy Tate in 13 French Street and Vahino Giocante in Secret Defense, both of which are too obscure to win, but are truly good enough to belong among the choices. Here's a link to my e-mail. Please let me know of any other omissions. Don't inform me of every possible nude scene, just the ones which a person might conceivably choose as their favorite for the year. We need any suggestions from you guys overseas. Between me, Spaz and Charlie, we have Canada, the USA and France covered fairly well, but there are lots of other films in the world, so perhaps we have missed a candidate of great merit.

  • * White asterisk: expanded format.

  • * Blue asterisk: not mine.

Just One of the Guys

1985

Sigh. I miss the mid 80's. Here's another flesh classic from the Golden Age of erotic thrillers and coming-of-age comedies.

Notes and collages

The Gauntlet

1977

Sondra Locke

Scoop's notes: Clint Eastwood has matured into a great filmmaker who produces a dramatic Oscar contender (or two) just about every year. His films are often heartbreaking and profound. Having acknowledged that, I'd like to say I miss his middle-period Westerns, and like them better than his latest hi-falutin' sob-fests. The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven are two of my favorite films. Pale Rider is also first-rate.

Here are his major films sorted by IMDb ranking. Pretty impressive list, especially since five of the top six were made after he turned 70, and two of the top five were made this year, his 78th on the planet. Wheezy Harry! I'd say he's doin' pretty good for an old fart.

  1. (8.30) - Unforgiven (1992)
  2. (8.27) - Gran Torino (2008)
  3. (8.20) - Million Dollar Baby (2004)
  4. (8.10) - Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)
  5. (8.09) - Changeling (2008)
  6. (8.00) - Mystic River (2003)
  7. (7.80) - The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
  8. (7.60) - High Plains Drifter (1973)
  9. (7.20) - A Perfect World (1993)
  10. (7.20) - Bird (1988)
  11. (7.20) - Flags of Our Fathers (2006)
  12. (7.10) - The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
  13. (7.00) - Pale Rider (1985)

This section will present Defoe's film clips to accompany Charlie's collages, which are found on his own site.

Today's entry:

Assorted unknowns

Scoop's note:

I guess this group is just for those of you who want the entire Defoe collection. If it seems that we're scraping the bottom of the barrel on Defoe clips, it's because that's exactly what we are doing. After six months or so of daily posts, I have finally assembled Defoe's entire collection in the archives. This is the last of them, so this column will no longer be a daily feature! This section will continue to appear once or twice per week, however, when Defoe sends new material hot off the presses.

Aria and Friends

Clips and caps from the quintessence of strip and wiggle disks, Aria & Friends.  Aria's friends turn out to be Penthouse Pet Aimee Sweet and pornstars Goldie McHorn, Nikita Denise and Mariah Milano.  As you would expect their wiggling reveals more than a modicum of pink and a wink of the ol' brown eye.  Julie Andrade comes along for the ride. Hers is a more demure performance, if you can call dancing starkers demure.  Also included is a clip of Pantera, who also appears to be a pornstar of some sort.  BTW, the caps were done by Master Tuna a long, long time ago - I stitched together two or more of them to make a single collage for each gal (except Pantera).

Some of the following have samples. Others not

Ludivine Sagnier in Mesrine: L'Ennemi Public No 1
Lesley Patterson in The Craving
Wallis Herst in The Craving
Emmanuelle Beart in Manon des Sources. Seen before, but seen this time in HD.
Cameron Richardson in Rise: Blood Hunter. One of the best scenes last year, now seen in HD.

Pics

Barbara Crampton in From Beyond. I noticed today that almost all of her nudity is concentrated into one very short period (three years 1984-6). Another reason to love the mid-eighties.

An unexpected flash of bush from Louise Goodall in The Vice

Amy Winehouse topless. You have to admit she looks a lot better than she has any right to, but don't these paparazzi have something better to do than following Amy Winehouse to the beach? What a life! If I am am paparazzi in my next life, I hope I can pick up a better assignment than that. Even Rosie O'Donnell would be an upgrade.

Film Clips

Bai Ling in Shanghai Baby. Sample right.
Silvia Abascal in Enloquecidas. Sample right.
Marie Baeumer in Die Falscher. Sample right.
Dolores Chaplin, also in Die Falscher. Sample right.
Moon Bloodgood in What Just Happened Sample right. Crap quality from a cam-job.

Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls in semi-HD (1024x496). Two of her best scenes: the infamous lapdance, and the pool scene. Both  feature Kyle Maclachlan as her partner in crime. That lapdance may be the wildest scene ever shown in a mainstream release.
