"Mondo Topless"
Mondo Topless (1966 documentary) day two. Tonight, the rest of the identified Mondo Topless dancers. There are several others on the DVD that are not identified. For those who don't remember the mid 60's, the film Mondo Cane, which was a series of oddities filmed all over the world, touched off a glut of Mondo films, none of which had a plot, and all of which had some breast exposure. Meyer decided, hey, why not a whole Mondo of breasts. Topless dancing started in North Beach, San Francisco, with Carol Doda at the Condor Club. She was known as the first dancer to have breast implants, and, for a few years, was a bigger tourist draw than cable cars.
Topless dancers, at that time, were celebrities, and didn't wait tables between dances. In fact, they didn't work exclusively for one club, but moved from club to club. and were listed on garish marquees outside. The dancing was basically just that, Watusi like dancing to bad rock and roll tunes, and was not in the least erotic. There was little bumping and grinding, and most of the women wore short shorts and gogo boots, rather than the classic g-string, but bare breasts were not seen openly before this craze, and it was a ground breaking trend. I recognize several of tonight's women from Marquees in the mid 60s.

The DVD quality is not at all good. It lacks contrast, and has a lot of dirt specs. This does document an important cultural phenomenon in the development of entertainment nudity, but, other than for historical or nostalgic purposes, does not have much entertainment value today. As I said yesterday, it is a C-.

Hey Scoops,
Regarding the "Monsters Ball" version, Cinemax actually centered their advertising campaign around the fact that they were going to show a version never seen in America before. But...only on the saturday premier. So if members are looking for the un-cut version, they most probably won't find it playing on Cinemax anymore.
