"100 Girls" (2001)
100 Girls (2001) has finally gotten a US release, but on DVD. You may recall Scoopy's rave review done from a bootleg copy, where he wondered aloud why this film had so much trouble getting a release, and the Writer/director Michael Davis wrote in with an answer. Scoop was right, this is a great teen comedy with specific male and female appeal, and a lot of honesty. Just as a refresher, Jonathan Tucker as Matthew is a college freshman. He is trapped in an elevator during a blackout with an girl whose face he didn't see, and loses his virginity to this woman of his dreams. Next morning, he wakes up and she is gone, leaving only her panties.
So begins a Cinderella glass slipper story, where is searches for her in a freshman dorm with 100 women. Along the way, he actually learns a little about the opposite sex. The film has a lot of exposure. Emmanuelle Chriqui wears black bra and panties in a sex scene. Marissa Ribisi shows her breasts in a film within a film. Note that we never see her face and breasts in frame together, but it is a continuous pan shot, so it is really her. Katherine Heigl also has a lengthy bra and cleavage scene playing strip fussball. Ivana Bozilovic plays a girl who cheats on tests by writing the answers on her ample breasts. Kristin Herold as the ever tan girl shows her breasts sunning, and Biljana Filipovic shows her breasts through an open window. There are many more women in bras running around the dorm. The film, as Scoop said works as a teen comedy and has feminine viewpoints that should make it attractive to women. What he didn't mention was the underlying plot mystery -- who was the girl in the elevator. The mystery element was as well done as the rest of the film. I have to agree with Scoop's B-, and urge you to see this film. Although it is an Indie, it is not at all artsy, but is more like a mainstream film, but made on a sensible budget, and not castrated by studio politics.

"Hemingway" (1988)
Hemingway (1988) was a mini series produced by a French/US production team. This biopic is 300 minutes long, which I thought was 100 minutes more than necessary. It portrayed Hemingway as a boorish lush preoccupied with death, who couldn't keep it is his pants. Although there must be some truth to that, he was also larger than life, friends with some of the greatest authors of his time, won both a Pulitzer and a Nobel prize for The Old Man and the Sea, and every one of his books is still in print today, 40 years after his suicide.
Hemingway, according to the film, was suffering from memory loss which made him unable to write, high blood pressure caused by his alcoholism, and clinical depression. He returned home from a lengthy hospital stay where they used electroshock therapy to cure the depression and ended his life. A last novel, Paris: A Movable Feast, was published posthumously. I suspect the film makers were attempting to paint the same kind of life story that Sandburg did in his biography of Lincoln, where you start the book because you think Lincoln was great, learn that he was nothing like you thought he was, but end up thinking that what he really was was even greater then you originally thought. The film didn't do that for me. Pappa Hemingway was noted for being irresistible to women, but a real mans man. The film made him out to be someone I would not have liked in real life.
Marisa Marisa Berenson showed one breast as his second wife in a very grainy scene. I can't award more than a C.

Evil Spawn is ... never mind. You can guess what it is from the title. It won't be confused with Mansfield Park any time soon. In fact, it doesn't have much in common with any real movie, except that if it had Italian accents, they would be about the same as the ones in Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

When you think of mid-90's actions movies, naturally one movie stands out...."Fair Game". That's right, Cindy's major motion picture debut. This is a modern "classic" in bad movie making that the MST3K guys could have a great time with.
The only partially redeeming thing about the film...Cindy took her top off. Unfortunately the director screwed that up with poor lighting. This $50 million flop took in about 11.5 million at the box office and is director Andrew Sipes' first and only IMDb film credit.
