The Edge is a drama about three female athletes and housemates who are attempting to make it in the big time. Annie (Jane Larkin also writer/director) is a sprinter who is attempting to run in the Australian Championships, Her boyfriend Sam (Conor Loughnan) wants an open relationship but Annie is very hesistant but she has a friend in Caleb (Joe Kalou) who will help her through it. Silvia (Lily Riley) is an Indigenous powerlifter who is struggling to make the weight for her contest and she sleeps with any boy she comes across. That is until she meets Elenore (Maia Michaels) who she ends up surprisingly falling for. Yui (Mei Ichinose) is a Japanese Paralympic swimmer who is struggling to make a name for herself including in her own team of swimmers. Then her boyfriend Ed (Layton Le Petit) becomes embroiled in a drug scandal and she finds herself further on the outer as she tries to support his bid to clear his name. Over the next few months, the three women will go through the trials and tribulations of being professional athletes while trying to qualify for their respective teams. Not bad look at what it takes to be a high performance athlete although it does get a bit soapy at times especially in regards to their romantic relationships. The movie is very busy with a lot of things happening and issues to overcome, probably too many as not all of them are given a proper explanation particularly Annie being sexually assaulted by the team doctor which ends up being brushed away very quickly. But the movie is never boring and there's a few cameos from star Australian athletes plus all three don't come out as winners in the end which is an interesting development.
