Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II

(1987)

Years ago, prom queen Mary Lou was burned to death just as she was about to be crowned. She has now come back to life and, boy, is she pissed. She chooses to possess Wendy Lyon, who, coincidentally, is the current front runner for prom queen. The guy who caused Mary Lou to catch fire is now the principal, and his son is now dating Wendy Lyon.

This is a Canadian "me too" effort that actually has nothing to do with Prom Night. The good news is that nobody took this too seriously, so if you like bad horror spoofs, this might be your kind of film. Many fans of the film have weighed in at IMDb with comments.

My only reason for watching this one is a single shower scene which contains all the nudity. Wendy Lyon shows everything in good light, and gives us long, lingering looks. Beverley Hendry shows breasts and buns, just before she is spectacularly murdered.

Hysteria

1998

Old-fashioned horror flicks are still fun, and in the case of 1998's Hysteria, it's actually Patrick McGoohan's great portrayal of the crazed doctor which makes this a tasty, old-fashioned "mad doctor runs amuck in the local looney bin" story.

A young doctor (gotta be one of those) is distressed when his patient is to be discharged from the state mental hospital even though he feels she isn't ready. The girl (Emmanuelle Vaugier) is still very unstable so he brings her to an old teacher of his who now runs a private asylum.

Once there, the young doc finds that his mentor is indeed doing wonderful things with the patients, but soon he begins to be distrustful of just how the doctor is accomplishing this. Next, he finds himself caught up in things he doesn't approve of, and even worse, he finds he's falling in love with his patient.

Nothing ground-breaking here, but if you're a fan of this type of flick, this one is a good one, with the added bonus of nice nudity by a young Emmanuelle Vaugier.
