"The Last Man"

The Last Man (2000) is a zero budget comedy that contains the only known exposure from Jeri Ryan. Unfortunately, the exposure was the side of one breast as she walks away from the camera into a trailer. Some unknown catastrophe has decimated the earth's population. David Arnott thinks he is the only living human, and decides to make a video to explain what he thinks caused the disaster when he bumps into Jeri Ryan. Since he is, after all, the last man on earth, she moves in with him, but they obviously are very different people. Everything is turned on its head when they run into Raphael, who is much more her type.

This film bored me to tears, and I failed to see any humor in it. IMDB readers have it at 7.4 of 10, but with very few votes. The film scored 33% positive overall at IMDB, and 20% positive among the top critics. Much of the film concerned the video Arnott was making, and was suitable terrible quality. The DVD didn't skimp on features, which a feature length commentary. I can't give this more than a D+

    "Intruso"

Intruso (1993) is the story of three people, two men and a woman, who were best friends growing up. Luisa (Victoria Abril) was married for two years to Ángel, then left him for the more stable dentist Ramiro. Cut to 8 years later, Luisa has two precocious kids, and who should show up very ill from South America but Ángel. She moves him in, which is not Ramiro's favorite thing. Luisa wants to love (and make love to) both men. Ramiro wants him out, but is willing to wait for him to die.

Abril shows breasts and buns in two dark scenes. I watched a Region 2 DVD, but for those interested, it is available on NTSC VHS with subtitles. IMDB readers say 6.1 of 10. I didn't get a lot out of the film, but I couldn't relate to any of the characters. C-.

    "Intimate Games"

Intimate Games (1976) is a British sex farce, which is pretty much a genre all to itself. While they played in the same market as US titty flicks, mostly drive-ins on adult night, they did not, in general, take themselves too seriously, and had lots of female full-frontal. This is an excellent example of the genre. A Psych professor assigns a project on sexual fantasies to be completed over the break. Each student is to interview a partner from the class, and one other person not connected with the school. All of this young, hot blood, and an arousing subject, are enough to cause the nudity and hanky-panky. Before I get to the nudity, future British porn superstar Mary Millington played a young choir girl in one scene.

    Here is the nudity breakdown:

Normaline as a maid: Full Frontal
Monika Ringwald as a secretary: Full Frontal
Maria St. Clare as a student: Full Frontal
Heather Deeley as a student: Full Frontal
Susan Glanville as a housewife: Breasts and buns
Anna Bergman as a student: breasts and buns
Suzy Mandel as a bi-curious student: Full Frontal
Felicity Devonshire as a bi-curious student: Full Frontal

I am a huge fan of these British sex farces. They are full of eye candy, and just plain fun. IMDB readers say 4.9 of 10, based on only a few votes. This film is a C+ as a great example of the genre that delivers on the nudity and has respectable production standards.

I received this great tip from a reader and this is indeed a very useful site.

    Hi Tuna,
When buying DVD's from different regions, it is sometimes hard to know which films from which region to pick. Sometimes when a DVD is released, in different regions, the specifications may differ. Here is a link to a site that compares DVD's from the different regions, and tells you where to get the most for your money: www.dvdcompare.org.uk

The following regions are compared: 0,1,2 and 4.

Yo, dudes. I'm back. Thanks to Tuna and Junior for making the page run so smoothly that you probably didn't notice I was gone.

    Movies:

The Bourne Identity (now playing in theaters) is a really good escapist movie, but has nothing remotely resembling nudity. I only saw it because it rained so much on my vacation, but I found myself liking it a lot, as did my 18 year old son.

Despite solid headliners (Brian Dennehy and James Woods), Best Seller is an all-but-forgotten theatrical release from 1987 about a writer/cop, ala Wambaugh, whose literary skills are solicited by a hit man who wants to go public with a tell-all book. Mr Hitman says he wants to get revenge on his former boss, who is now a respected and powerful corporate executive, but the cop just doesn't know how far to trust the guy.

    • Claudia Stenke (1, 2)

Butterfly Kiss is a strange British movie about a woman who kills everyone not named Judith. It is narrated with its tongue so deeply buried in its cheek that it plays out as an oh-so-serious and not very good drama unless you really pay attention to the dialogue. If you do focus in on what the characters are saying, you see that it is a pitch black comedy. It reminds me of the famous Piranha Brothers sketch from Monty Python, except that the exaggeration is not sufficient to create an immediate crossover into farce. Many critics liked it, but I didn't. I am so unsophisticated that I prefer my comedy funny.

    "Murder at 1600" (1997)

A very decent mystery/action/thriller starring Wesley Snipes, Diane Lane, Dennis Miller and Alan Alda.

    The plot:
A beautiful young woman is found dead in the White House. The President's approval ratings are already way down due to a hostage crisis and his lack of action, and the last thing the White House needs is a scandal. However, there has been a murder in the most secure home in America, and the crime needs to solved quickly. Alan Alda, as National Security Advisor, authorizes D.C. Homicide (Snipes) to aide in the investigation. Diane Lane (looking gorgeous) is the Secret Service agent assigned to Snipes as a liaison officer.

Naturally, as the case progresses there are many twists and turns. People aren't always who they seem, and the case isn't as open and shut as the Secret Service would like it to be. As clues are revealed, Lane learns she must risk her career, and maybe even her life, to do the right thing and help Snipes solve the case.

The story is your typical whodunit, but the unique spin of having the murder take place in the White House does make us think about what might really happen. In real life, I would imagine that any such crime would be erased from existence, and no one outside of a handful of top government people would ever know the truth. But for the movie, the government lets the public know, and gets the cops involved. I still say that would never happen, but at least they don't make it easy for Snipes, and toss in some red tape, secret surveillance, shadowy assassins, etc.

    Some thoughts:
Snipes is a fine actor, but from all of the news and gossip I have read over the years, it seems that all too often his ego gets in the way, and he makes demands that change the look and feel of his characters and/or films. Much to director Dwight H. Little's credit, that did not happen this time. In this role he was a good cop, but not a supercop. He wore a normal detective wardrobe, drove an unmarked squad car, didn't have sex with the female partner, and all of his action sequences played out very naturally. No Armani suits and blue tinted shades, no jet black ultra cool muscle cars, no high flying karate kicks, no mega endurance chasing bad guys on foot, no supercop intuition about the bad guy's next moves, and so on. The end result...Snipes' character was just an everyday guy in an extraordinary situation. Or as I like to call it, The Bruce Willis Effect. Interestingly enough, IMDb Trivia says Willis was originally cast to do this movie, but backed out.

The supporting cast was first rate as well. Diane Lane has always been a personal favorite. Dennis Miller provided wonderful comic relief, and Alan Alda was great in a role that is a departure from his norm.

    The nudity:
Little known actress Mary Moore (only 3 credits at IMDb) is seen topless in a dark love scene as the title credits roll, and then again on a slab in the morgue.

    C2000
    "Bare Witness"

In making this movie the Director strictly adhered to the basic rules in "The Definitive Guide to Making Straight to Video Crime Thrillers":

Rule 1 - A troubled detective will be handed a seemingly routine case that will turn out to involve corruption, political intrigue and murder.

The local mayoral candidate has narrowly avoided an assassination attempt and the local police force is devoting it's resources to tracking the killer when a prostitute is found dead. This seems an ideal case for Detective Killian (Daniel Baldwin) who is suspended from active duty for assaulting the incumbent mayor. The case turns out to be anything but routine when it emerges Julie, the dead prostitute, videotaped her sessions with clients and the final missing tape implicates a powerful local businessman in the assassination attempt.

Rule 2 - The detective will wrongly suspect an attractive female but soon he will be forced to protect her.

Killian starts his investigation suspecting Julie's flatmate Carli (Angie Everhart), another wannabe actress. Before long Carli's flat is turned over by goons after the tape and Killian realizes his error.

Rule 3 - The original suspect will have sex with the detective.

Angie shatters her promise to gran yet again as she continues the pursuit of Shannon Tweed. Not to the standard of Sexual Predator but some nice nudity as she humps a whale.

Rule 4 - The original suspect will become an accomplice in helping the detective solve the case.

Killian and Carli realize the missing tape is the key to finding Julie's murderer and there is a shock in store when she unwittingly finds it.

Rule 5 - The suspect/lover will do something stupid that puts her life at risk and force the detective into a tricky position.

The film does rather well here without resorting to silly plots twists. While the actual facts are clear, the motivations and loyalties of the characters are developed in an interesting manner. The box promised a "sexy thriller" and it delivers on the nudity and remains interesting to the end if not thrilling.

    Nudity
Angie Everhart showed boobs, butt and perhaps brief bush in a long and reasonably clear sex scene. Catalina Larragna, Lauren Reina (twice) and two strippers delivered the full monty in lengthy scenes.

    Julia Roberts Weds Cameraman

    By RICHARD BENKE, Associated Press

TAOS, N.M. (AP) - Academy Award-winning actress Julia Roberts married her cameraman boyfriend Daniel Moder early Thursday at her 40-acre estate outside Taos.

The wedding marks Roberts' second trip down the aisle. The star of "Runaway Bride" and "My Best Friend's Wedding" was married for 21 months to country and western singer Lyle Lovett.

The darkness of the cool New Mexico morning concealed the details of Roberts' wedding but provided the perfect backdrop for the midnight ceremony.

"Julia Roberts and Daniel Moder married during a midnight ceremony before family and friends at their home in New Mexico," Roberts' publicist, Marcy Engelman, told The Associated Press about an hour after the ceremony.

Engelman declined to give any details about the couple's nuptials, the bride's attire or the guest list, saying, "This is all we're going to release at this time."

A big white tent was seen on Roberts' estate Wednesday afternoon and the town was crowded with photographers and reporters, some of whom camped outside her gate.

A pitch-black sky was dotted with millions of sparkling stars as music and laughter could be heard coming from Roberts' home into the early morning hours.

The rumors heated up this week when The Daily Mail of London reported that 50 guests were being flown from Los Angeles to New Mexico for some sort of celebration at Roberts' estate. The paper said George Clooney, Roberts' co-star on "Ocean's 11," was to be among them and that invitees were to wear white linen.

"Pretty Woman" (1990) remains Roberts' biggest hit, with a domestic gross of $178.4 million. Her other $100 million hits include "Notting Hill," and "Erin Brockovich," for which she received a best-actress Oscar in 2001.

Roberts' love life has been tabloid fodder for years. She broke up with actor Benjamin Bratt last year after dating him for nearly four years. He went on to marry actress Talisa Soto in April.

Roberts broke up with Kiefer Sutherland in 1991 on the eve of their wedding. She also was linked to Jason Patric, Dylan McDermott, Matthew Perry and Liam Neeson.
