New Releases This Week "ID4"
from Tuna
I have to apologize for
not getting through the new releases more
quickly. One of the biggest is the special
edition of Independence Day. They went all out on
this release with a two DVD set that includes the
theatrical release and a special edition with 9
additional minutes. There are also several
commentaries and featurettes and even a game. I
watched the special edition version and couldn't
tell where the additional footage was. There is
still no nudity. The THX remaster resulted in
crystal clear video and audio, and it is
presented in anamorphic wide screen. If you are a
fan of this film, you will want to buy this
edition.
Jr. Here, using the
traditional Scoop yellow for added member
comments. I picked up "ID4" myself on
Tuesday and agree with Tuna, it's a great buy for
the fans. I think I found the added
footage....Stupid and pointless subplot about
Randy Quaid's youngest having something wrong
with his adrenal cortex and needing medicine.
Plus a few extra minutes inside the cockpit of
the Roswell craft with Data and Jeff Golblum.
"Flypaper"
from Tuna
Flypaper is a
made-for-cable dark comedy made in 1997. It
starts as several different plots involving
mostly criminal types. The stories eventually
converge. This is a truly strange film. Imagine a
Standford chemistry major (Lucy Alexis Liu) who
is making methamphetimine in a trailor/lab. She
is kidnapped by two thugs, then taken to their
lab where they chain her to a beam, and expect
her to make the drugs for them. The kidnapping
doesn't upset her, but she does not like being
chained. She cuts her heel to get out of the
chains and escapes, then finds the love of her
life in a herpitologist who harvests snake venom.
They end up drinking anti toxin, then having sex
in a swimming pool full of rattle snakes.
If that isn't strange
enough for you, how about a hitch hiker
super-glued to a steering wheel, the new bullet
hole in his head patched with Superglue, and a
big knife buried to the hilt in the top of his
head. If this is your idea of funny, this is
worth a rent. It is one I will rewatch, as I
found some scenes hilarious. Acting was good,
video quality was good, and the film has good
pace.

Old Release
"Double
Agent 73" from Tuna
Pure exploitation trash
from 1980. Double Agent 73, played by Chesty
Morgan (whose bust size is 73), has a camera
implanted in her left boob. Her assignment?
Photograph the bad guys. This. of course,
necessitated baring her boobs, which is the point
of any Chesty Morgan film. She can't act, and
isn't that attractive, but her chest makes it own
presence known. I have included one of the
original publicity posters and, as you can see, even the
director did not really take this one seriously.
The transfer is not particularly good, but that
is not why you would watch a Chesty Morgan film,
is it?
