"Hackers" (1995)

Hackers (1995) was a summer blockbuster in what can be called the hack-sploitation genre. Like most films in the genre, the computer science is done very badly. Ebert doesn't see that as a problem, and awards 3 stars. Berardinelli held that against it, and didn't like the adult villains, so gave 2 stars. Maltin liked the energy, and put it in the watchable 2 1/2 star slot. I like Angelina Jolie's tits, so will give it a C.

Jolie is hacker Acid Burn. When Jonny Lee Miller (Crash Override) moves to New York, he and Jolie start a rivalry, but, at the same time, are erotically drawn to each other. A member of their group breaks into a large mainframe, and unwittingly discovers proof of a major swindle. The super-hacker who has been hired as head of security for the company, Fisher Stevens, and his girlfriend have written a worm to transfer a small percentage of every dollar transaction handled by the computer to a holding area. When the amount is set aside, the worm will transfer the money to a Swiss account, and they will be rich.

Stevens discovers the break-in, writes a virus which supposedly will sink oil supertankers, and then frames the hackers. To defend themselves, they must hack the supercomputer and uncover the evidence. The film is visually impressive, and the teen characters look great and interact with each other well. The adults, however, do not help the film. Jolie removes her top in a dark lovemaking scene. The best exposure in the film, however, is a see-through in a sheer black top. The real surprise was a clear breast shot in the G-rated trailer which didn't make it into the film (see image 1). The film had a meager gross of $7.564m.

"The Garden of the Finzi-Continis" (1970)

The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (1970) is more like a costume historical drama than a post-modern Italian film. It is at its best when in the garden, providing wonderful scenics. Interiors are mostly dark, and a little drab. It is the story of two families in pre WW II Italy, both Jewish. The Finzi-Continis are Jewish light, very wealthy, and have many influential friends. They feel that they will be able to hide behind their connections and their garden walls and avoid the racial purge. The other family is devout, and sees what is coming.

Dominique Sanda, as Mikol Finzi-Contini, and Giorgio have been childhood friends. He would like an adult relationship, but she scorns him. A toothless old guard dog belonging to the Finzi-Continis, who is now worthless for protection, symbolizes the inevitability of their fate, as their status and estate cannot protect them from racial persecution. Costume period dramas are not my favorite genre, and I found this one rather slow, and with remarkably little action considering the times it was depicting. I also found it rather talky. I did enjoy seeing a lovely Dominique Sanda in both a wet tennis shirt, and later, with bare breasts through a window in a darkly lit room. C+

    "Little Voice" (1998)

I have no idea how I missed this film when it came out. I rented it based on the fact that it was rated R, hoping for some nudity, but with no expectations. Had I checked IMDB first, I would have noticed that it is a foreign comedy, yet has an amazing 7.1/10 score from IMDB readers. Maltin and Ebert say 3 stars, and Berardinelli gives 3 1/2. Brenda Blethyn received an Oscar nomination as best supporting actress, and the film garnered a Golden Globe for Michael Caine for his role as a sleazy talent promoter. UK gross was £8.054m, but US release was a total flop (3 screens, $93,722). Hmmmmm, maybe that is why I missed it.

Blethyn plays a widowed mother of "Little Voice (LV)," a young woman who is a recluse, and only lives for the records her father liked. At times, she sings to him (or his memory), and does it well. Blethyn meets Ray (Michael Caine), and brings him home. When Caine hears Little Voice (Jane Horrocks of Absolutely Fabulous fame) sing, he thinks he has discovered his goldmine. He convinces Jim Broadbent, sleazy nightclub owner, to give her a try. The only trick is to get LV to do the show. Ewan McGregor plays a telephone man who is more interested in homing pigeons than people, and becomes LVs love interest.

I had no idea watching this that it was originally a stage play -- the adaptation was that good. Blethyn was "bloody fookin' hilarious," with lines like, "Whats a matter with you lot, ain't you ever had a shag in a Chevy?" The most amazing thing about this film, however, was Horrocks voice. The first item in the credits was the tidbit that all of Jane Horrocks songs were sung by Jane Horrocks. She sounds every bit as good as the stars whose hits she performs, including Shirley Bassey, Judy Garland, Ethyl Merman, and even Marilyn Monroe. Granted that the film peaks when Horrocks is singing, but between Blethyn and Caine, there are no dead spots.

As soon as this review is sent, I am ordering both the film and the soundtrack. Were it not a foreign musical comedy, which a lot of people don't like, I would grade it higher, but I will say B.

    Little Voice -- Addendum:
The soundtrack from Little Voice, for some reason known only to them, features the original artists on all but two tracks. The good news, is that there is a British import available that is all Jane.

Please Don't Eat My Mother is a 1970's softcore exploitation film, featuring the legendary Rene Bond, who disappeared from the adult scene and into anonymity  in 1978. The male star, Buck Kartalian, was about the only guy I can name who had simultaneous careers in real movies and softcore porn. He was in such movies as Cool Hand Luke and Mister Roberts. In fact, his next film after this silly trashfest was The Outlaw Josie Wales! He is still working today at 78, taking bit parts in flicks like My Favorite Martian and Viva Rock Vegas. I'm pretty sure he doesn't do skin flicks any more!

    Rollerball is a sports movie. No, it's a futuristic S/F movie ...

Well ... the game is really fun to watch! Too bad the non-action sequences suck so very, very deep. Jimmy Caan and John Houseman have a competition to see who can come up with the most eccentric way to mumble. Caan goes for the "Crazy Guggenheim talking to Joe the Bartender" style of mumbling, while the classically-trained Houseman assays the much more difficult "Mr Magoo" style.

As you probably know, this film is being remade by John McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard, The Thomas Crown Affair). It is a project with a lot of potential, but those who have seen an advance screening all said it appeared to be awful beyond salvage, sometimes incomprehensible (the same things they said about his first cut of 13th Warrior before Crichton allegedly fired him and started reshooting). Rumors further state that they're going to go back to reshoot many Rollerball scenes in the hope of rescuing it. I guess between this and the 13th Warrior fiasco, people think McTiernan has lost it. I don't know about that, but I thought The Thomas Crown Affair was a good flick, indicating that he still had some gas in the tank.

Rumor has it that the new version has plenty of "full on" naked chicks, including Rebecca Romijn. Sorry, the 1975 version has male nudity only!

Diary of a Chambermaid (the 1964 version, not the 1946 version) is now on DVD in a beautifully remastered widescreen version. Now if only I had some idea why people think this is a brilliant movie. It does look great, but apart from that I have no idea why it is supposed to be good. Sorry. I guess marijuana use in my college years destroyed the brain cells that would have appreciated Luis Buñuel. (Not to mention the ones that would have understood him) Just call me Phil, short for Philistine.

Isabelle Ferron Looks like some sport humping in the tub. 'Caps from "Monsieur Naphtali" (1999).

Unknown Unknown actress playing a woman chasing a butterfly who keeps losing her clothes until completely nude in the 1985 short "Fly, Lady Fly".

María Rojo Full frontal nudity in "Esmeralda Comes by Night" (1997). Mexican actress María Rojo still doing nude scenes at 54 and still looking great. Her first nude scene was "Candy Stripe Nurses" (1974) 23 years earlier.

Jo Ann Harris Topless in "Rape Squad" (1984) aka "Act of Vengeance".

Susan Petrie Also known from her role in David Cronenberg's "Shivers" is topless once again in the pre-Porky's sophomoric comedy, "Rip-Off" (1971).

    Kim Trengrove

    Kim Lewis

    Pamela Hawkesford

    Nathalie Gaffney

    Some assorted Aussie actresses:

  • Kerry Mack...briefly topless in "Fair Game", aka "Desolation Angels" (1982).
  • Kim Trengrove shows a side of her breast also in "Fair Game (1982).
  • Kim Lewis...topless in "Squizzy Taylor" (1982).
  • Pamela Hawkesford...full frontal nudity, and also nude in three-way love scene from "Contagion" (1987).
  • Nathalie Gaffney...show her breasts in the same three-way from "Contagion".

  • Shower scene

    Assorted unknowns

"Contrainte par corps" (1988) is a French, woman-in-prison movie with the obligatory shower scene. The lead actress, Marianne Basler, only showed one body part at a time. So the best nudity was done by the various supporting actresses.

  • Full frontal and dorsal nudity in the shower scene
  • Breasts and bums by the other actresses.

  • Monica Keena

    Daisy Eagan

    Monica and Daisy

The only reason the movie "Ripe" (1996) was made is to parade Daisy Eagan and Monica Keena braless in semi-tight shirts so we can see pokies, and so the camera can peek down their blouses whenever they bend over. Monica went on to star in "Dawson's Creek". Daisy has since then been doing mostly theatre.

Sharolyn Sparrow Sharolyn Sparrow shows her robo-hooters in the last Death Wish installment "Death Wish V: So Very Tired". The worst boob job I have seen on a non-porn actress. You can actually see the gel packs bounce around underneath her boobs.

Heather Langenkamp Of "Nightmare on Elm Street" fame has a topless love scene in "Nickel Mountain" (1985).

Elizabeth Suzuki Elizabeth as a nude love scene in "Caged Terror" (1973) aka "Golden Apples of the Sun". Considered by many to be the worst movie to have come out of Canada that does not star Shannon Tweed. But at least we wee all three B's.

    Janne Mortil

    Tamsin Kelsey

From "Chaindance" (1990) aka "Common Bonds":
  • Janne Mortil...shows some pokies.
  • Tamsin Kelsey...distant full frontal nudity.

  • Jo Ann Harris Topless in the hopelessly dated comedy, "The Gay Deceivers" (1969).

Lisa Jakub Showing alot of bare midriff as a newly recruited prostitute in scenes from "Painted Angels" (1998) aka "The Wicked, Wicked West".
