Michel Mercier in "Shoot the Piano Player". A great movie in its time, still quite entertaining today. Although it has many dramatic elements of a classic noir, it is also a hilarious comedy which makes me laugh out loud several times. At one point Aznavour's wife tells him that he must conquer his shyness, so he wanders over to a little Paris bookstore. The store has a box full of bargain books outside, and the first five he looks at are all on Conquering Timidity. (Maybe it was an all-timidity bookstore, the 1960's equivalent of my all Ben Gazzara cable network. "All Ben, all the time", as the announcers always say.) The two pipe-smoking bad guys are hilarious, especially the one who has become so rich from crime that he has an air-conditioned hat.

anonymous model and Crumb in "Crumb". This movie also gets 4 stars in my book. It is a documentary about the famous underground cartoonist. (He's the guy who created "Keep on Truckin'" and Fritz the Cat. His work was all-pervasive in the hippie era, but he's perhaps known best today for the cover art on Cheap Thrills, the famous Janis Joplin album.) Crumb's family must take the all-time dysfunctionality championship, a heart-wrenching band of lonely outsiders permanently alienated from the American Dream. Charles Crumb, the cartoonist's troubled older brother, who emerges as a co-star of the film, committed suicide shortly after the filming.

The famous Courtney Thorne-Smith bare butt scene from Ally. I never heard if this was she, or a body double, but you don't see that many butts on U.S. broadcast TV, body double or not.
