Sweet Hell
(2015)
Home
Sweet Hell is a black
comedy where Don and Mona
Champagne (Patrick Wilson
and Katherine Heigl) live
the perfect marriage with
their two perfect
children, well according
to Mona. Don runs a
furniture shop in town and
is tasked to hire a new
salesperson and in walks
Dusty (Jordana Brewster)
and Don hires her
instantly, thanks to a
gentle shove from another
salesperson and good
friend Les (Jim Belushi),
although he is reluctant
to tell Mona that he hired
a beautiful woman as the
salesperson. But, Dusty is
great at her job and even
better when she is
seducing him, so she
deserved her 'Employee of
the Month' mantle. Then
things go wrong fast when
Dusty tells Don she's
pregnant. Don decides to
buy her off, but doesn't
have the money to do so.
That's when he tells Mona
about the affair and after
he initial disgust at Don,
she formulates a plan to
kill Dusty, which sickens
Don, but he goes through
with. It turns out Mona is
a natural at the nasty
stuff and after disposing
of Dusty's body herself,
Dusty's boyfriend Murphy
(A.J. Buckley), who is in
on the scam to extort
money from Don, comes
after Don. That's when
Mona set up a plan to get
Murphy and his cronies
arrested for Dusty's
murder. As the bodies pile
up, Mona becomes more
sociopathic and Don just
has to figure a way out of
this mess.
A
pretty good black comedy,
better for the
performances of Wilson and
especially Heigl who is
excellent as the
sociopathic wife and gets
all the best lines too.
Her glee at cutting up
Dusty is something else
but is amusingly
counterpointed with Don's
being completely sickened
by it all and his new
found killer instinct.
Worth a look if you like
black comedies.
