"Body Double", from Tuna
I've discussed this many
times. One of my favorite junk pictures ever. I
like the mystery in this DePalma film because the
solution is based on details that you could have
noticed, and therefore you could also have solved
the mystery along with the protagonist. (The key
fact was the family dog not barking or attacking
when an intruder entered the house.) Mysteries
irritate me when the solution is unrelated to
what is presented in screen, and they really tick
me off when the solution actually contradicts the
facts they present. The classic example of the
latter is Basic Instinct. When Michael Douglas
finds Gus' body in the elevator, exactly as
described in Sharon Stone's novel that he saw by
accident, he knows for an absolute certainty that
Sharon Stone must be the murderer. No possible
other explanation. So what does he do 10 seconds
later - he kills Tripplehorn when she reaches for
her keys. WTF?? Oh, well. Maybe he just wanted
Tripplehorn out of the way, so he and Stone could
do some serious fuckin'. Can't say I blame him.
Anyway, Body Double is a stylish Hitchcockesque
film, and quite sexy. thumbnails Melanie Griffith (1,

"Vampyres",
from Tuna
Tuna's commentary:
Vampyres -- Rollinaud? Oui. Rollin? No.
Spanish born director
José Ramón Larraz is a bonafide character,
judging by the Biography and filmography (which I
have included in the images). He used most of the
elements of a Rollin film, including naked
lesbian blood drinkers, castles, strange
artifacts scattered about and very slow pace.
Larraz cast Marianne Morris and May 1973
rabbit-girl Anulka Dziubinska based solely on
their appearance. They had such little acting
ability that their (inane) dialogue had to be
dubbed by experienced actresses. Anulka was
credited using only her first name, and the
images are labeled that way. The girls thumb a
ride home, then devour the men who give them
rides, after getting them drunk and screwing
their brains out. A couple camping nearby is also
drawn into the fun.
So far, it could still
be Rollin, but what is missing here is Rollin's
superb color, composition, lighting and
photography which makes his imagery so memorable.
Lacking that, Rollinaud is merely an excuse to
look at naked women.

"Bloody
Mama", from GR
Bloody Mama is to
Shelley Winters as Big Bad Mama is to Angie
Dickinson. Fortunately, Shelley didn't show the
goodies.
