"Atlantic City"
Atlantic City (1980) is, as Scoopy said, way too good a movie to have been forgotten. (Read his review linked below for plot details.) While it has plenty of humor, some action, and suspense, its real strength is interesting characters played to perfection, good cinematography, and a plot that is not predictable, so the proper genre is probably character driven drama. The logical formula ending would have been to have Lancaster and Sarandon going to Monte Carlo together, and second (tragedy) choice would have been to have Lancaster killed. Neither of those things happened, so the ending was a surprise, and, what's more, it was true to life.
Scoop mentioned the scene (actually two, where Sarandon washes herself with lemon juice to get rid of the fish smell from the oyster bar where she works, and Lancaster watches from across the way. Even though I knew the nipple eluded us for most of the scene, I found myself saying, "Is she going to keep facing that damned window forever?" Then a light went on. If she is bare chested, and facing a window at night, there should be a reflection. Sure enough, there is her breast reflected back from the window (images 9 and 10). I included a few frames where her nipple is obvious under her clothes, and an up-skirt showing a pantyhose covered panty crotch as she is getting up from the sidewalk. Granted, I am a huge Sarandon fan, but I think most anyone will enjoy this film. B.

"Supergirl"
Supergirl (1984) is being released this week in a director's cut with an additional 24 minutes of footage that was thought to be lost forever. The transfer is good to very good, but the DVD is bare bones. I had never seen the film, but found it a quick enjoyable watch despite the expanded 138 minute running time. It is a typical comic book movie, with the usual conflicts and plot . There is nothing even approaching nudity, but Faye Dunaway as the evil Selena, and Helen Slater as Supergirl looked so good I had to do an image of each.
IMDB readers rate it 3.8 of 10, the lowest score for any film with Slater, and nearly Dunaway's worst score as well. I think the score reflects the problem of trying to compare all films using one yardstick. Peter O'Toole and Faye Dunaway received Razzie nominations for their portrayals. Critics savaged the film, and audiences stayed away in droves, but the following snippet from the Apollo review might explain why I enjoyed it. "But it’s not really that bad, especially if you have high tolerance for cinematic cheese, not the least of which is the shockingly omnipresent over-emoting of female ham extraordinaire Faye Dunaway . Ridiculous dialogue, wooden performances and story pacing that would make a snail envious are among of the more noticeable flaws. But guess what? If this one catches you in the right mood, you could still have a good time." As a PG rated comic book film, this one hits the mark exactly C.

"Buio Omega"
Buio Omega (1979) is Joe D'Amato's favorite of his films, and reaches the heights of gore and nudity. It has been variously known as Beyond the Darkness, Blue Holocaust, Buried Alive, The Final Darkness (IMDB's favorite) and In quella casa. A young man lives in the villa left to him by his recently deceased parents, and works doing taxidermy. When his girlfriend dies, he assures her that he will never leave her, exhumes the body, and stuffs her. His kinky housekeeper has her own designs on him, hoping to marry it rich. She actually used voodoo to cause the death of the girlfriend. Over the course of the film, it becomes necessary for him to maim and murder several women. We see his removal of the girlfriend's intestines in graphic detail, including a scene where he takes a bite out of her heart for no apparent reason. The gore level remains high throughout the film.
As for nudity, we see extended full-frontal from Cinzia Monreale as the girlfriend's cadaver. She also plays sister of the girlfriend, and is used in a surprise ending. Two other actresses show full frontal, one in a bath and dressing scene, the other as a cadaver. I was unable to ID either of the two, but perhaps one of our readers can help. There is a driving sound track by Dario Argento's favorite group, Goblin. D'Amato (Real name Aristide Massaccesi) finished off his long career during hard core porn, as did his male lead, Kieran Canter. All of the positive comments I found talked about how sick and disgusting the film is, as if that is a good thing. The special gore effects are very effective -- so much so that the hot rumor at the time of release was that they had used actual cadavers. If you hate Euro-gore, this one will surely disgust you, but if you are a genre fan, you will want to see this one, which is fully restored and contains all of the footage often deleted for US screening. The transfer is rather nice, and there are some special features, such as cast interview. C.

Movies:
Innocent Blood was John Landis's attempt to
recapture the comedy/horror magic of his earlier pic, American Werewolf in
London. It's a tender romance. It's a gangster pic. It's a horror gross-out.
It's kind of a mess, but I thought Robert Loggia was a hoot as the
gangster/vampire. Movie is sorta OK, but it's a candidate for the award of
worst DVD ever.
Other crap:
Was Gumby a racist? You
decide. Brilliant, odd, personal, and very funny site.
What can you see under her shorts in those Britney Spears "smoking" pictures from the tabloids. Beats me, but here's the stuff for you to ... um .. study scientifically.
Here are the latest movie reviews available at scoopy.com.

Scoop,
Still with "Barbarian Queen" as Lana Clarkson does a little sword play. Then she's captured, tied up, cut loose and the evil guy rips open her top as he tries to kiss her, but she bites him. Then sends her off to the dungeon scene which we've already reviewed.

Topless in "Killing Me Softly".
We first reported some news about this movie back in December. Originally it was scheduled for a Christmas release, then a January release. Now the only dates I can find are for this summer. As Scoop mentioned a few months ago, it "carries the stench of defeat about it. Something is wrong here, although I don't know exactly what."
Anywho...if and when this puppy is ever released, here is some info.
1.Co-stars Joseph Fiennes and features rough sex, public sex and sadomasochism.
2.The IMDb reported that the scenes of kinky sex actually raised a laugh with audiences.
