"Quackser Fortune", from
Tuna
I have reviewed this
film in depth here.
The thing that I didn't
mention in my IMDb review is that it includes
quite a bit of nudity from beautiful, 20 year old
Margot Kidder, nearly a decade before she hit it
as Lois Lane, and long before she started
foraging in dumpsters with the raccoons. The film
is therefore more interesting to us film nudity
lovers than it is to film lovers in general.
Personally, I kinda like this strange, quirky
little film, but IMDb viewers do not agree, and
rate it under 5 - in Ed Wood territory.

"Summer
of Sam", from Tuna
Tuna's comments
"Spike Lee's epic about the summer of 1977
and the Son of Sam murders. He focuses on a small
Italian neighborhood in The Bronx, and how
suspicion destroys relationships and causes
friends to turn on each other. I am generally a
Spike Lee fan, but this movie was way to long for
my taste. The swingers are supposedly at Plato's
Retreat. Lee has given us an accurate image of
New York in 1977, but has not created an
enjoyable film." Scoop's comments. I think
Tuna is right, but I don't think the length of
the film was the problem, but rather the length
of the individual scenes. Lee decided to give the
actors a lot of improvisational latitude with
their dialogue, and this can cause problems. The
reason to hire writers is that they have a sense
of how long each scene and each piece of dialogue
needs to be in order to maintain dramatic
tension. If you just let actors go, they will
improvise at great realistic lengths, and use up
a lot of film to maximize their camera time. This
can be a very effective technique, but ultimately
the director has to determine at what point
realism gets in the way of drama. Spike just sat
back passively, and some scenes go on far too
long for their importance in the film. thumbnails Patti LuPone (1,

"Hush",
from Tuna
Just a comment on
yesterday's pics. Several people wrote in to say
that the nudity in "Hush" is a body
double, not Gwyneth, if you're keeping score at
home.
"Two
Moon Junction", from Johnny Web
I've discussed this many
times in the past. A Southern gothic erotic
potboiler from Zalman King. King knows how to use
the steamy music and dreamy visuals to augment
the atmosphere and maximize the eroticism of the
sex scenes. I've written that Radley Metzger is
the world's classiest and most intelligent
pornographer, but maybe Zalman has overtaken him.
Unfortunately, the movie itself is just another
episode of Red Shoe Diaries, padded out to 90
minutes. I included some interesting non-nude
stuff for those of you who just love films.
Ancient Burl Ives in the role of the "you in
a heap a trouble" southern sheriff, complete
with the sunglasses. He never sang that goober
peas song, but he brought the history of Steamy
Southern Gothic with him. Milla Jovovich was a
little kid, if you're interested to see what she
looked like then. And, of course, Tattoo from
Fantasy Island is one of the greats. Kind of a
mini-Branagh. Big Nurse is also in this, as the
rich family's matriarch, but she wasn't really
worth capping.
Getting topless in this
movie is Kristy McNichol, whome you may remember
as the little kid sister "Buddy" on the
TV series "Family". Even then she
seemed to belong to the FLA (Future Lesbians of
America). She does a good job as the
booze-swillin', tough-talkin', nipple-paintin',
92-wheeler-drivin' floozie who represents the
other side of the Southern caricature, in
contrast to Fenn's rich plantation-ownin'
pampered princess. Hard to believe that
"Buddy" turns 38 this year.
