"Susan's
Plan", from Johnny Web
What the hell happened
to John Landis, legendary director of The Blues
Brothers and Animal House? This comedy is really
messed up.
First of all, it centers
around cold-blooded murder for profit, and we
follow the story of the murderers. The victim is
barely seen, but we are led to believe that he
deserved to die. Huh? Killing a guy we don't know
isn't exactly as involving as getting harmless
revenge on Dean Wormer. This is creepy. Second,
the comedy leads aren't Tim Matheson and John
Belushi. Nope, they are those two well-known
comic cut-ups Billy Zane and Nastassia Kinski.
Man, the laughs never stop comin' when those two
are around. That Zane, what a jokester! WTF? I
guess Manson was in prison and they wouldn't let
him out, so they had to get Zane. Third, the
level of humor involves too many people hiding in
a closet and one of them farts. And you thought
the Algonquin round table represented the apex of
sophisticated wit! Fourth, when the movie ended,
I thought they were kidding. The credits started
rolling and I reversed to see if I missed
anything. Then I forwarded to see if there was
more after the credits. Nothing. It just seems to
end in the middle of the movie. Fifth, all the
main characters that we have been following (one
minor exception) end up either brutally slain by
gunfire or in prison awaiting the chair. There's
some wacky comic genius at work, eh? Those people
that don't get killed for real get killed in
enactments of dream scenes.
There are a lot of nude
and sex scenes. They are in crappy light, shot
from silly angles, or pass by too fast, but there
are a lot of them. Kinski's scene is so dark you
can't see a thing. Boyle's scene with the doctor
(#1 and #2) is about 10 frames in dark light,
over before you know it. Boyle's bath scene (#5)
is entirely in motion, so she's out of focus in
the still captures. Thankfully, Boyle's scene
with the victim does show her off quite well. I
don't think she's too thin, as so many people
say. She's just a hardbody. Venuti's scene is OK,
and her chest looks great, but I don't know who
she is.
Lara Flynn Boyle. I have
altered the lighting, pretty much different
effects in each collage. (1,

Christina Venuti
Nastassia Kinski. The lighting was especially bad
in this scene, so I just brightened the hell out
of them, then shrunk them so they wouldn't look
too bad.

problem. Please eliminate the old ones from your

Dark, autobiographical,
story about a hollywood screenwriter fighting the
dark side of his nature and the temptations of
fame and success. Since we have Billy Zane in a
comedy today, we therefore have Ben Stiller in a
drama to fulfill equal time requirements. Perhaps
if they had reversed roles, both movies might
have improved. A disappointment because the
Region 1 DVD is missing some excellent nudity
seen in Australia and perhaps elsewhere. (Aussie
did those caps some weeks ago)

"Revenge",

Another Costner flick,
based on a pulp novel by Jim Harrison. Big Kev
seduces the wife of a rich, powerful, and very
vengeful guy who considers him to be a good
friend. And then the two guys do that bull
kangaroo thing and crash their chests together
over the woman, who is apparently really not
important to either, except as a prize. Anthony
Quinn plays Zorba the Billionaire.
