"Summer Rental" (1985)

Summer Rental (1985) is a PG family oriented comedy staring John Candy as Jack Chester, an air traffic controller who is given a mandatory 6 week vacation to recover from burnout. He takes his family to Florida for the much-needed rest, and has a series of mis-adventures. The film kicks into high gear when Candy refuses to let a wealthy local blowhard walk on him and ruin his family's vacation. He decides to take away the blowhard's lock on winning a local yacht race.

This is an amusing film, even though it is family oriented. There is ample opportunity in the script for a more mature version however. In one sub-plot, a neighbor woman, Lois Hamilton, has just had a boob job, and is proudly showing them to everyone who will look. The editor made a mistake, and left one single frame showing her boobs. Before anyone asks, yes, I do know how sick and twisted it is that I could spot 1/30 of a second of exposure in a family film.

Maltin awards 2 1/2 stars, putting it in the not great but watchable range, and IMDB readers say 5.4/10. After applying the "IMDB we hate comedy" handicap, the score is consistent with Maltin, and I agree at C+.

    "For the Boys" (1991)

For the Boys (1991) is one of my favorite Bette Midler performances, and I am a huge fan of the divine Ms. M. Others agreed with me, as she was nominated by the Academy for best actress, and received best actress from the Golden Globes. Nudity report -- none, other than cleavage. Maltin awards 2 1/2 stars, but praises Midler's performance. Ebert, in a carefully written review, trashes the film as having a bad script and lack of character development, while awarding 2 stars. IMDB readers say 5.8/10. US gross was $17.68m.

Midler (as Dixie Leonard) is an unknown radio singer at the start of WW-II, when she gets her big break. Her uncle is a writer for famous song and dance man Eddie Sparks (James Caan), and gets her a gig on his European USO tour. She leaves her young son with a friend, and flies off to London for what is probably a career making chance. She arrives late, tears her dress, gets off on the wrong foot with Eddie, but is a huge hit with the GIs, both for her singing, and her indelicate humor. Eddie wants her on the first plane home, but is convinced by his writers and his manager that the two of them together will take show business by storm. In all honesty, this is the best part of the film.

The story is told as a flashback by Midler to a young production assistant who has arrived to get her to an awards show with Eddie, whom she hasn't spoken to in 25 years. They did the USO thing through WW-II, had a hit TV sitcom, went back on tour for Korea, and then again for Vietnam, where Midler's son is killed in front of her. She blames Eddie for this, and for not defending her uncle against an HUAC blacklisting. Take Bette from this film, and it would not be watchable. I am a fan of big band music, so really enjoyed the music. The makeup in aging Eddie and Dixie was very well done, and some of the sets were impressive. I am going to call this genre a "serious Bette Midler," and give it a C+.

I looked at Candy, which starred every big star there was at the time, everyone from Richard Burton to Brando to the Beatles (well, Ringo, anyway), all of whom made complete fools of themselves. The director displayed such a complete lack of grasp of the essence of comedic timing that he was never again allowed to direct. Presumably, his parking space was painted over, and the studio denied all knowledge of his existence. Miss Aulin's career in a nutshell: at 18, co-starring witrh Burton and Brando. At age 23, working the night shift at a Swedish 7-Eleven in Jönköping. Actually, I don't know where she was at 23, or where she is now, but I doubt she could pass the arithmetic test necessary to work at 7-Eleven

  • Linda Blair a bit of a rarity...Linda topless in the tub in a scene from "Savage Streets" (1984).

Annabella Sciorra Great seeing her on the Sopranos the other night. Might I add that she looked amazing in her black undies. (Anyone catch any 'caps of that scene?) For now, here she is in a brief topless shower scene with Rae Dawn Chong from "Prison Stories: Women on the Inside" (1991). Thanks to Blackshine for the 'caps.

    Pam Anderson
    (1, 2)

Pam doing a different rock star this time...Here are 'caps of Pam and Brett Michaels of Poison. Not the greatest 'caps, but hey, this home movie didn't get the same exposure as the Pam and Tommy honeymoon, so I guess this is a bit rare. What we do see is Pam givin' Brett a BJ, and almost being penetrated.

Christina Ricci ZonononZor worked his magic on the recent Ricci see-thrus. Looks like he uncovered even more skin with just a little color/contrast/brightness tinkering.

Louisa Moritz Topless and rear nudity in scenes from the 1982 movie, "The Last American Virgin".

Diane Lane Yesterday Brainscan made the following remark...
So far as I am concerned Diane Lane is the most beautiful woman on the planet.

Yes...I second that emotion. I've been a huge fan of hers for a long time as well. I can even forgive her for being married to Highlander. Here she is topless in a love scene with Lambert from the straight-to-vid turkey, "Knight Moves". Thanks to Jotell for the 'caps.

Susan Dey Laurie Partridge topless in scenes from "First Love" (1977).

Terri Runnels For the Rasslin' fans...some extreme pokies. Seriously these could put someone's eye out. Thanks to Beercaps.

    Rosie Perez

Graphic Response mixed up two actresses in the "De Sade" caps in Sunday's Fun House. The 'caps identify the actress as Senta Berger, but it's actually German actress Christiane Krüger. Thanks to UC99 and Arthur Figgis for pointing that out.
