"Star Wars" (1977)

I am going to assume that all of you are familiar with Star Wars (1977). What you may not remember is that Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was braless throughout. While it is more obvious as she jiggles, there were enough see-throughs for a few caps. They have been threatening to release all of the Star Wars on Region 1 DVD for quite some time, and, as of yet, there is no announced release date. I gave up waiting and acquired a region free copy. I hope the eventual region 1 release is digitally remastered and widescreen, as the copy I worked from was less than perfect. My copy was also devoid of special features, other than sub-titles in 7 languages.

Sitting at 8.8/10 on IMDB makes it the 8th most popular film of all time. At first, that bothered me, as I have no trouble thinking of dozens of better films. but I realized that the IMDB score is really more of a popularity contest. Maltin rates it at 3 1/2 stars, more consistent with my view of the film. The film advanced the state of the art in special effects, and had a rousing score, but didn't impress me that much when I first saw it. This time, I enjoyed it much more. I was watching a better copy, on a larger screen, and with surround sound, which made the experience much more enjoyable. The film, in its original release, earned $513.7m worldwide, and has grossed $270.918m in rentals. The 1997 reissue earned $460.935m in the US alone. Not bad for a film made for $11m. Of course box office profits are trivial compared to the merchandising profits. I think it is safe to say that the profits from this film exceed the total worth of many small countries. Given these credentials, the film deserves a few images of a not quite naked Carrie Fisher.

    This is Doreen Jacobi from "Die Frau, die Freundin und der Vergewaltiger", which means roughly translated "Da Gal, Da Pal and Da Rapist and of course The Cook, The Favour, the very Large Fish and its swingin' Wrath of good ol' Khan".

    It's some serious stuff and they've done it quite well. The deconstruction of the former rapist is excellent. Doreen Jacobi and Valerie Niehaus are acting far better than considered.

    Lousy quality due to lightning. This time, the dish is not to blame.

    This must be one of the greatest faces I have ever seen, especially in the Hollywood Undercover video. Great body too! It seems her film career ended with the Marilyn Chambers video in 1994. That one is captured from TV, while the Penthouse vids are older tapes and somewhat poor, so the most interesting details are a bit blurry.

    Here's one from a Fun House reader.

    Regarding both of yesterday's Mc-stupids and the two Cokes for a dollar sign -- until recently, my local McBurger (and I imagine most of the chain) charged $0.99 for four nuggets or $1.99 for six. I got in the habit of buying two four-pieces on a regular basis. Recently they raised the price of four to undo this error... I wonder how many others were working my "two more, plus a penny back" scheme?
