Fantasy is a 1990 erotic drama where university student Jenny (Clare Chilton) is in a loveless marriage with her soon-to-be doctor husband Rod (Campbell MacPherson) so she placates herself by having an affair with English lecturer Linda (Jane Darley-Jones). Jenny tells Linda of her fantasy man who she saw in a photo in a magazine and it turns out to be a middle-aged man which Linda thinks Jenny can do better when it comes to fantasy men. A guest lecturer arrives at the university and Linda drags Jenny along to it and the guest lecturer turns out to be her fantasy man. Jenny is shocked and acts weirdly trying to avoid him but also constantly looking at him until he comes over and introduces himself as psychiatric doctor Dr. Quentin Doland (Colin Borgonon) and she tells him that he's a pretentious bore. He asks her to come back to his hotel room to 'fuck her brains out'. And... she does. Over the next month, the two enact out her sexual fantasies and then she reciprocates with wanting to act out his fantasies but he tells her he needs a week to prepare.

A week later, Jenny turns up at a remote country house to start her month with Quentin but she is greeted by the 'mistress' of the house (Maha Hindi) who tells her that she's to be a maid for the doctor and is made to wear a provocative uniform. Then the doctor seems to ignore her as the lesbian cook (Julia Binns) and the slow-witted gardener (Brendan Strahan) harass her relentlessly. When he is around, the doctor treats her like a maid and flirts relentlessly with the other maid (Elizabeth Stewart) and Jenny's not having this and confronts him. He placates her and then invites her to read his diary, which seems to be about events that are to happen the next day. Jenny decides to continue the 'fantasy' but she is struggling with the harassment and sexual frustration until Linda arrives to take part but Jenny doesn't seem to recognise her. Things escalate when the mistress sacks the cook then the gardener rapes Jenny and they replace the gardener with her husband Rod, who she also doesn't seem to recognise. It turns out that the doctor has been running an experiment on Jenny and his 'help' are fellow psych doctors who are helping him. Things take a turn for the worse when the doctor writes a final diary entry that predicts her death. Will Jenny survive this wretched 'sexual fantasy'.

Bizarre movie where it's billed as a sex movie and despite quite a bit of sex and nudity, is really more of a psychological thriller gone wrong. There's an interesting idea here but the movie is walking a line between soft core erotica and psychological thriller and always ends up on the side of erotica preferring to only have a fairly simplistic look at the psychological side of things. Plus the ethics of this experiment is highly suspect and then completely fucked when one of the help/doctors rapes Jenny. This is not helped by the ludicrous development where only after a few days of the experiment, Jenny can't even recognise her lover or husband when they inexplicably join in the frivolity. At least Linda has a problem with the ethics of the experiment but she still joins in and gets her fill. Rod is a complete dope, so 'glad' he's becoming a doctor. I can't get over why she married Rod as she tells Linda that she's never loved him. It also turns out that Jenny is an awful person who does a lot of whinging, so watching her descent into 'madness' isn't a lot of 'fun'. For a movie that clearly markets itself as an erotic movie, it sure goes to a very strange direction. Plus the sex and nudity, while plentiful, is all very mild -only breasts and only in brief bursts. You see more in something like Fifty Shades of Grey.

An odd, poorly formed movie.

The videos below are from a VHS rip of the movie so the quality is down but it's actually not-too-bad except for one video where there's some brief extreme tracking issue but it's not a big issue. Otherwise, it's about as good as we're likely to get as this movie is long in the forgotten category and barely got released although it seems to have had a British release on VHS.
