Notes

An Oscar note. Just a point in passing. You guys picked The Matrix and South Park as the 6th and 9th best movies of the 90's, but they weren't nominated as best picture this year. It was quite a good year for films, I guess. There were about 10 movies this year better than The English Patient, which was best picture only a few years ago. In addition to some of the nominees, and the two mentioned above, Topsy-Turvy and Being John Malkovich could reasonably be considered better than The English Patient. Now that I think about it, every movie made this year in every country was better than The English Patient, including the ones your Uncle Florian took at your cousin's wedding and the ones with Saffron Burrows. (Nothing against Saffron personally, but "Loss of Sexual Innocence", "Wing Commander", and "Deep Blue Sea" in the same year must set some kind of record.)

The Gist and Lawdog

Stereo2k.
Izabella Scorupco Bootleg from "Dykaren", a brand new Scandinavian thriller about the path of the money in the aftermath of a major heist. For a Scandinavian film, it is remarkably lacking in chess games with death, although there is a soccer game with death. Oh, wait a minute. That isn't death, just a visiting English soccer hooligan.

Seriously, I didn't realize Scoupco had such an impressive chest.

"Holy Smoke", from Johnny Web

Actually, I didn't do anything here except place four to a picture. A guy named Squirrel did the bootlegs, and I didn't have time to add any variety images or anything. This looks like it will be a beautiful film to capture once a DVD is available. The image on the top left of collage #1 is absolutely beautiful, even on a bootleg, and Kate is stark naked in some images. You will find nudity only in #1. (1, 2, 3)

"Ride With The Devil", from Johnny Web

Again, I didn't really contribute to Squirrel's bootlegs. This is a different kind of bootleg, based on film cels scanned with a slide scanner, something I've wanted to try myself. Does anybody have any tips on how to do this?

Incidentally, although people have said there is nothing to see in this scene, that may not be accurate. It appears to me that Jewel's nipple may be visible in the top left image.. The scene isn't really erotic, but I think it's quite a stimulating series of images. Jewel looks very appropriate for the period. I heard good things about this movie, which I haven't seen, but it came and went with barely a ripple.

"Final Analysis", from Tuna

Tuna's comments: "Final Analysis is a murder mystery Hitchcock wanabee that doesn't make it. Richard Gere is a psychologist who has an affair with the sister of one of his patients. Intrigue ensues, but not that much. I can't remember why I watched it. Oh, yeah - Kim Basinger gets naked."

"Mallrats", from Tuna

Scoopy's note - as I've mentioned in the past, Kev's great writing and his own performance as Silent Bob more than atone for his directing, which is the cinematic equivalent of a garage band. I think there are a lot of laughs in the movie, but even if you hate the rest of it, the whole thing is worth watching just to see the world's most famous stoners, Jay and Silent Bob (whoa, Spicoli, you're yesterday's papers, dude), kick the shit out of the Easter Bunny. Tuna's thumbnails for this movie Joey Lauren Adams (1, 2) Priscilla Barnes (1, 2, 3)
