I've really been enjoying watching some shows with Katya lately. I've noticed there is a sharp caste division among her shows. You have the shows where the teenagers are in their 60's (some of them on 90210 need a walker, which is difficult to work into the script when they are on the track team), the shows where the teenagers seem to be in their 40's (Buffy dresses like my aunt, and sometimes carries an oversized purse, as so many of our young people do today), and then there's "Dawson's Creek", where some of the teenagers may be as young as 30! Katya has been so profoundly affected by this that when we watched a few minutes of one of those Beach Party movies, she thought Frankie Avalon was too young to be playing a teenager. Phoebe Cates, "Paradise". Just strolling around in the buff. Movies with Aesthete Sweet Country is a Michael Cacoyannis film about the 1973 revolt in Chile. It has one of the strangest casts ever assembled. Randy Quaid, Franco Nero, Jane Alexander, Irene Papas ... how could they all fit together? Well, they don't actually. The movie was a disappointment considering that the director had given us Zorba the Greek. (Cacoyannis is still at it, after 40-something years. His new project is an interpretation of Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard", and reunites him with Zorba co-star Alan Bates.) The main thing from our point of view, however, is that the evil guards in this movie use their absolute power to get women undressed, and one of those women is Carol Laure, so we don't need all that much more. I wonder how you apply for the position of evil guard? Maybe in my next career as writer/actor, I can write some scenes where I interrogate Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman. With my luck, Diaz and Kidman would refuse the roles, and the director would cast Rosie O'Donnell and Nora Dunn. Evil guards have to be versatile, and the work isn't easy. In Nazi movies they have to dye their hair blond, and say "Schnell, meine damen" in a realistic German accent, and you think it's easy to learn to wear a monocle? In South American corruption movies, they have to dye their hair dark again, grow a realistic moustache and practice saying "alright, ladies" in a realistic Chilean accent. (This is because evil German movie guards speak German, but evil Chilean movie guards speak English with a Chilean accent. Nobody can explain this.) Then, in the prison movies they have to gain weight ala DeNiro and practice saying "ok, you dames" with one of those 1940's New York accents. It's a tough life as an evil guard, the travel wears you down, you age prematurely from the weight changes, and your hair falls out from the color changes. But most of them think, looking back on it, that it was all worth while. Naughty Movies with SE7EN SE7EN has been with us a long time, and consistently comes up with very naughty material that we haven't seen before. This week only one collage, but it's a beauty, the infamous and very hairy Marushka Detmers in "First Name, Carmen". She isn't sipping the love-Slurpee this time, but she is letting an explorer go boldly where, I suspect, several men have gone before. Movies with Master Bagger Master Bagger came up with something that surprised me this week. I guess I should know this kind of thing, but I didn't know that Tawny Kitaen had done a movie with full-frontal nudity. Sure enough, here she is in Crystal Heart, not only nude but in a well-lit scene! Master Bagger, more of the Tawnmeister, this time with her buns exposed in one frame, and plenty of topless activity.
