Soft Fruit
(1999)
Soft Fruit is a comedy/drama about a misfit
family who are all bought together to be with their mother who is in the
final stages of dying from cancer. The family, consisting of 3 daughters
and a recently released from prison son, are all of the larger variety and
have varying relationships with the other members of the family,
particularly the father who seems to alienate everyone. As the mother's
condition deteriorates, we find that the relationships wither become
closer or more strained. I don't really want to give a detailed account of
the movie and that description is very vague, but it's been a few months
since I've rewatched it and I can't remember a whole lot about it. I
suppose that shows how interested I am in the film...

Sensitive New Age Killer
(2000)
Sensitive New Age Killer is a comedy action film
set in Melbourne about a hitman who is having quite a number of problems.
He is being blackmailed for sex by a policewoman (Carolyn Bock) who knows
that he's a hitman, his partner is the shonkiest guy ever, whether it's
deliberately stuffing up the hits or blackmailing the hitman's wife (Helen
Hopkins) into sex because it turns out the partner is the father of the
hitman's child. And the partner is the sleaziest man ever. When a big shot
Chinese gangster comes to town, a $1 million dollar bounty is placed on
his head and the hitman wants in. Of course, his partner wants him to fail
and the policewoman wants her share, so it's up to the hitman to do it
alone and against numerous security. This film I do remember and it's a
lot of fun. It's very low budget, but it doesn't skimp on the action, even
if some of it is completely ludicrous. And definitely influenced by those
Hong Kong gunplay action films from the 80s and 90s, which is never a bad
thing.
