Queen Sono

Came across this South African series on Netflix over the weekend, thought I'd give it a go, considering I've been on a South African movie kick recently.

It's not bad. Basically a spy series, a one woman Strike Back, where Pearl Thusi is a spy that doesn't follow the rules and gets herself into a lot of trouble by doing things her way. There's a plot to take back Africa for the black people which is being funded/controlled by a corrupt security company owned by a ruthless Russian woman. Both the rebels and security company have the goal of running Africa.

Also the spy, actually named Queen Sono, is trying to get to the bottom of who killed her activist mother when she was a kid and is leaving quite a mess in her wake. Oh and the rebel head and Queen have a thing, making things more complicated.

It's a good, fast-paced series but does get bogged down with the obligatory origin story, something these series love doing and should probably avoid. Also it ends in a way that suggests that there's more to come, as there should be since none of the major plot lines are close to being concluded.
