Downloading Nancy

2008

Downloading Nancy, inspired by the real-life consensual murder/assisted suicide case of Sharon Lopatka, who died in 1996, is a dark tale featuring excellent performances, especially by Maria Bello.

Nancy (Maria Bello) is trapped in a loveless marriage and cuts herself as an escape mechanism. She is under therapy, but it isn't helping her lose the feelings of hopelessness that surround her.

She seeks escape with Louis (Jason Patric), who she met over the Internet. Louis has agreed to provide her release by torturing and killing her, so one day she simply disappears to meet him. After several days, her businessman husband finally becomes curious about where she is.

What makes this powerful drama so effective is the performances. It is a sad and unpleasant story, but is still quite interesting, and I enjoyed it.
