The Last Detail (1983) stars Jack Nicholson as Billy "Badass" Budduskey, a "skivvy waver" 1st class, who is in transit in Norfolk, Virginia. For those who have not been around the Navy, sailors are "in transit" while they await new orders for their next assignment. While they wait, they are assigned every "shit detail" that needs doing on base. Norfolk, although it got a lot of revenue from the Navy presence, was not friendly to sailors. Signs like "sailors and dogs, keep off the grass" and "painter wanted -- sailors need not apply" were common. He is assigned to chase a prisoner (escort him) to Portsmouth Naval Prison to serve an 8 year sentence, and then receive a dishonorable discharge. Otis Young is also assigned as the second chaser. The seaman they are escorting is played flawlessly by Randy Quaid, who is an 18 year old kleptomaniac who got caught trying to grab $40.00 from the base polio fund.

Unfortunately for Randy, it is the base commander's wife's favorite charity. Baddass plans on rushing the prisoner to Portsmouth, then splitting the travel and per diem money given for the three of them with Otis, and enjoying the two weeks allotted. As he gets to know the meek Quaid, who has never done anything, and "doesn't know how to have fun," he decides that it is up to him to teach the kid something, and show him a good time before he delivers him. The good time includes beating up three Marines in a bus station head, drinking most of the beer on the east coast, and finally getting the kid laid at a house of ill repute, where we have exposure from Carol Kane as a young lady of easy virtue. In the widescreen version, all we get are glimpses of her breasts, but the 4/3 version shows bush as well

IMDB readers have it at 7.5 of 10. Both Nicholson and Quaid received Oscar nominations for their performances, and Nicholson won best actor BAFTA, and best actor at Cannes as well. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 100% positive. Over the course of the film, we see Quaid bloom, then, at the inevitable conclusion, withdraw back into himself. It was a difficult part, and he nailed it. I suppose I am somewhat biased as an ex Navy man, but this is one of my favorite films. Nicholson simply is Badass Budduskey, Otis Young was a perfect counterpoint to Nicholson, and the story was lively, human, and believable. The ending scene is one of the highlights. Quaid is turned over to a smartass Marine Lieutenant, who then proceeds to harass Nicholson and Young, and you can see that, with every fiber of their being, they want to kill this "Jarhead," but they meekly kiss his ass, and leave with their tails between their legs. This scene alone said volumes about my experiences in the Navy. The DVD is a little grainy, especially in the darker scenes, but is watchable.

We headed back in the time machine finally leaving 1965 behind us, but stopped off in 1982 to visit "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" at the notorious Chicken Ranch.

Of course we first take a look at Dolly Parton and some of her mega-cleavage. Then some bare boobs from Annie Gaybis and Terri Treas. Next is some nice see through from Victoria Wells. Then on to some caps of various unknown Chicken Ranch girls, some bare boobs and some peeks here and there.

Most of the scenes are during the raid as the girls entertain the Texas Aggies football team. This movie just came out on DVD this week, it's my wife's favorite movie and worth a look for Dolly and Bert Reynolds fans. Actually the best part of the movie is Charles Durning's musical number for which he received an Academy Award nomination in a supporting role.
