Junior is attending a convention, so I'm doing double-duty for a while.  

Jeepers Creepers (new DVD) is, in my estimation, one of the ten best teen horror films ever made. (Well, for whatever that is worth. There aren't many that are any good. Read my review for details.) Unfortunately, the only nudity is an anonymous corpse.

Cut and Run (new DVD) is one of those ultra-violent jungle films from Italy, where the violence is not only extreme, but depicted in excruciating detail.

Zebra Lounge (new DVD) is an erotic thriller with a decent premise (variation on a theme by SWF), but really not enough skin for the genre. Kristy Swanson is in this, plays in a half-dozen steamy sex scenes, and never once shows any flesh. (Durn the luck!). Brandy Ledford showed some flesh, and I'll have that tomorrow, but read down to Tuna's column, because he's got it covered.

"Queer as Folk" (2000)

The second DVD of six contains episodes 4 through 7. In episode 5, we get a brief look at one of Michelle Clunie's breasts from the side. There is, of course, no end of male nudity in every episode. Let me set the main  characters in this soap tonight. 

Hal Sparks as Michael Novotny. His mother owns a diner, and is very vocal about supporting his gay lifestyle. He works in a K-Mart type store, where he is not out. His best friend is Brian. 

Gale Harold as Brian Kinney. Brian is in advertising, is a total slut, and against relationships. He and Michael have been best friends since they were 14. Brian provided the semen in a cup for Lindsay to get pregnant.

Thea Gill as Lindsay Peterson. Lindsay gives birth in episode one, and is in a committed relationship with Melanie.

Michelle Clunie as Melanie Marcus. She is far more militant and butch than Lindsay, is an attorney, and can't stand Brian.

Randy Harrison as Justin Taylor. Justin is 17, and had his first gay encounter with Brian. He is in love, and follows Brian everywhere. Brian isn't interested in anyone but himself.

Sharon Gless as Debbie Novotny. Debbie is Michael's mother.

Makyla Smith as Daphne Chanders. Daphne is Justin's best friend and confident.

Scott Lowell as Ted Schmidt. Ted is the oldest of the group, is an accountant, and never seems to pick up anyone.

Peter Paige as Emmett Honeycutt. Emmett is the swishiest of the group.

Much of the air time is spent in gay clubs where men exchange meaningful glances, and in male/male sex scenes. The plot moves about as far each episode as with any other soap. While this is going to be a very long exercise for me, I do find myself caring about some of the characters. Let's hope the lesbian action between Lindsay and Melanie picks up on disk 3.

"Zebra Lounge" (2001)

Zebra Lounge (2001) is a made for cable with a decent premise. A couple, married for several years and with two kids, are doing well in most areas, but boredom has set in in the bedroom. They decide to place an ad for another couple, and possibly have sex with them. The four meet at the Zebra Lounge, and do end up in bed. Brandy Ledford as Wendy Barnet and her husband Cameron Daddo as Alan Barnet enjoy the evening, find their sex life now has the jump start it needed, and try to break off the relationship, but the other couple won't take no for an answer. From there, we pretty much have the mixed doubles version of Play Misty for Me.

This would have been enough to sustain a soft core, but was not unique or involved enough for a 90 minute thriller. Brandy shows her breasts in two tame love scenes. With more sex and exposure, this would have been watchable, but bombs as a thriller. . It is technically adequate, and the acting is not completely impossible, but, with the script, it had no chance. There are some turds you just can't polish. IMDB rates it 4.7 of 10, and I say D+.
